At four in the morning, four families stood next to building entrance number 4, waiting for the bus that would take them to their new futures. A young girl, wearing an expression far too serious for her age, looked around, trying to cram all her childhood memories into one last moment.

"It's not forever. Within a year, I will get to you, and we will all be together forever."

She didn’t bother to answer, continuing to absorb the feelings of her final moments near entrance 4. He probably thought she believed him—that she was just a little girl who didn’t understand.

Finally, she spoke: “Today is April twenty-first. If you’re not there on April twenty-first, 1992, I will not have a father any longer.”

Her words sucked the air out of the yard. Everyone looked at her; she just stared at the approaching bus lights.
